Until publication of The Prudent Investor Act: A Guide to Understanding in 2002, fiduciaries (and their advisors) really didn’t have a practical guide from which to get even a basic understanding of the prudent conduct required of them. This comprehensive book, authored by one of our advisors, fills that need. The book also describes and explains the prudent investment and management process that fiduciaries must ordinarily establish and follow.
The Uniform Prudent Investor Act is now law in 42 states and the District of Columbia. The standards of the Act bear on the investment conduct of a wide variety of fiduciaries responsible for investing and managing the assets of private family trusts, 401(k) plans and other ERISA corporate retirement plans, charitable non-profits such as foundations and endowments, as well as public employee retirement plans for states, counties and municipalities.
This book is required reading for trustees, attorneys, accountants, financial planners, investment advisors, stockbrokers, bankers, insurance agents, judges and regulators. Serious individual investors can also benefit from reading the book as well as anyone else interested in modern prudent investing.
One of our advisors has written another book, Index Mutual Funds: Profiting from an Investment Revolution. The book (with a foreword by John C. Bogle) is a comprehensive guide to the many benefits and appropriate uses of passive investing.
